A Message About School Safety in Pinellas County Schools

Pinellas County Schools, School Police, and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reaffirm our shared commitment to ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for every student. We understand the trust you place in us each day. Protecting our campuses and classrooms is a responsibility we take seriously — and one we carry out with care, vigilance, and partnership. Safety is a community effort.

Pinellas County Schools has partnered with Sandy Hook Promise to offer the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System. Say Something allows you to submit secure & anonymous safety concerns to help identify and intervene upon at-risk individuals BEFORE they hurt themselves or others. Tips made to the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System are passed along to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and school officials.

JANUARY 2026 - SAFETY UPDATE

E-Bike Safety Reminder: More students are riding e-bikes and e-scooters, increasing the number of riders on the road and on the way to school. While these devices are fun and convenient, they move fast and require extra caution. Law enforcement and emergency room doctors are seeing an increase in serious e-bike injuries.

E-Bike Safety Tips

  • Wear a properly fitted, buckled helmet
Florida law requires riders under the age of 16 to wear a helmet
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and bright or reflective clothing
  • Follow traffic laws and ride with traffic
  • Use bike lanes when available
  • Stop at intersections and ensure there is no oncoming vehicular traffic
  • Slow down at driveways
  • No phones, earbuds, or headphones while riding
  • Use hand signals when turning or stopping
  • Make eye contact with drivers when possible
  • Ride at a safe, controlled speed
  • Use front and rear lights when riding at night
  • Check brakes, tires, and battery before riding
  • One rider per bike, unless the bike is designed for two

Human trafficking awareness: Pinellas County Schools places a strong emphasis on preventing and raising awareness about human trafficking as part of its commitment to student safety and well‑being. Student Services provides a comprehensive network of support, and their resiliency curriculum, mandated by the State of Florida, includes lessons that help students recognize warning signs, build protective skills, and understand how to seek help when they or others may be at risk.
