JoAnna Bernal has been the principal of East Lake Middle School since Fall 2026. She began her career in Pinellas County Schools in 2005. She served as an Assistant Principal at Dunedin Highlands Middle School (2021 to 2026). Her background includes serving as an Assistant Principal at Morgan Fitzgerald Middle and Pinellas Park Middle School (2019-2021; 2015-2019), a Classroom Teacher at Madeira Beach Fundamental K-8 and Pinellas Park Middle School (2011-2015; 2007-2011), and a Substitute Teacher (2005-2007).
Ms. Bernal earned a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University and a bachelor’s degree in Biology from St. Petersburg College.
